Annastacia Palaszczuk is joining the Australia Post board.

Former Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has been appointed to the Australia Post board as a non-executive director, replacing Tony Nutt, who completed his two terms in the role.

The government says Palaszczuk, who served as Queensland’s Premier from 2015 to 2023, brings a wealth of experience to the role, particularly in public service delivery and crisis management.

Communications Minister Michelle Rowland says Palaszczuk’s role will be crucial in ensuring Australia Post can “remain sustainable and continue to deliver for Australian communities over the longer term”.

Palaszczuk’s three-year term will come with an annual remuneration of $107,000.

However, Palaszczuk’s appointment has not been without controversy. It has come at a time when the government faces accusations of appointing former Labor politicians to high-profile public sector positions.

Critics have noted several similar appointments, including former ACTU secretary Greg Combet and former minister Terri Butler to significant roles within the government.
