Round 2 of Federal funding for airstrip upgrades
The Federal Minister for Regional Services, Local Communities and Territories, Catherine King has announced more funding is available for remote and isolated airstrips to get a facelift.
The ‘National Aviation Policy White Paper; Flight Path to the Future’ was released in 2010, outlining the Government’s decision to combine four separate regional aviation programs into a streamlined single unit. Now the second round of funding in the subsequent ‘Remote Airstrip Upgrade Program’ is available, which will see $9.1 million dispersed for applicants to upgrade works at remote aerodromes in outback Australia.
Applicants have until July 26 to sign up for the second round of funding. The program is divided into five separate funding components; a subsidy for weekly air transport of goods and passengers, assistance for aerodrome safety, upgrades for airstrips in indigenous communities, annual safety inspections and general safety and operational upgrades.
