The Federal Government has announced the first $150 million round of the $1 billion Regional Development Australia Fund.

 

The first round will be dedicated to construction community buildings, cultural and tourist projects, training centres and regional airport upgrades.

 

The Federal Government announced it would invest $150 million in 35 projects worth $418 million in the first stage of the five-year regional funding program.

 

Up to $100 million was initially made available for investment-ready projects that supported the growth of local communities across the country. Over 550 applications were received and due to this strong response from communities the Federal Government extended the amount available under Round One to $150 million.

 

The projects that have been awarded funding are as follows:

 

New South Wales:

  • $7 million to Newcastle City Council towards the $21 million Newcastle Region Art Gallery Redevelopment;
  • $3.5 million to Ballina Shire Council for the $4 million upgrade and extension of the Ballina Byron Gateway Airport;
  • $890,000 to Central Coast Emergency Accommodation Services for the $2.2 million refurbishment of the Coast Community Centre in North Gosford;
  • $698,000 to the Hunter Valley Research Foundation in Maryville for a $937,600 project to expand its capacity to meet the emerging information needs of the Hunter community;
  • $4.96 million to Lismore City Council for the $5.99 million Lismore City Hall Upgrade;
  • $1.67 million to Four Winds Concerts Inc for the $2.88 million Four Winds: Building Nature's Concert Hall project at Barragga Bay;
  • $1.9 million to Griffith City Council for the $2.4 million upgrade to Griffith Airport;
  • $2.26 million  to Youth Off The Streets Ltd for the $4.83 million Youth Off The Streets - Project Cordeaux, Cordeaux Heights, to refurbish the existing facility; and
  • $8 million to St Vincent de Paul Society (New South Wales) for the $18 million project to rebuild of Freeman House Complex in Armidale.

Victoria:

  • $12.3 million to the Greater Bendigo City Council for the $25.8 million Sandhurst Community Theatre Complex project;
  • $10 million to the Geelong Football Club for the $46 million project to construct Stage Three of Skilled Stadium;
  • $10 million to the City of Greater Geelong to construct a new $45 million Geelong Library and Heritage Centre;
  • $1.05 million to Southern Grampians Shire Council for the $1.66 million Lake Hamilton Regional All Abilities Playground and Foreshore Redevelopment in Hamilton; and
  • $2.7 million to Hepburn Shire Council for the $3.23 million Clunes Community and Interpretive Centre project.

Queensland:

  • $5 million to Rockhampton Regional Council for the $15 million Rockhampton Southside Memorial Pool Redevelopment in Wandal;  
  • $2.02 million to Gold Coast City Council to construct a $23.51 million Upper Coomera Community and Youth Hub;
  • $4.79 million to Townsville City Council for the $5.29 million Magnetic Island Walkway Project - Nelly Bay to Arcadia - project;
  • $2 million to Somerset Regional Council for the $4.4 million Somerset Civic Centre in Esk;
  • $1.03 million to Lifeline Community Care to construct a $3.5 million Lifeline Youth, Community Counselling, Education and Training Facilities in Pialba;
  • $4 million to Bundaberg Regional Council towards the $6 million Bundaberg Recreational Precinct; and
  • $1.65 million to the Maleny Community Centre for the $1.72 million Maleny Community Centre's Social Enterprise Capacity Building Renovation.

Tasmania:

  • $2.32 million Glenorchy City Council for the $15.9 million Glenorchy Art Sculpture Park Stage Two project; and
  • $4.31 million to the St Giles Society Inc for the $5.81 million project to build a new multi-purpose Paediatric Regional Centre of Excellence in West Hobart. 

Western Australia:

  • $15 million to the Shire of Roebourne for the new $65 million Karratha Leisure Complex;
  • $5.57 million to the City of Rockingham for the new $11.15 million Baldivis Library and Community Centre;
  • $7.42 million to the Shire of Katanning towards a $25.47 million project to construct a new state-of-the-art sheep saleyards in Katanning; and
  • $4.9 million to the Kimberley Land Council Aboriginal Corporation for the $14.59 million purpose-built Kimberley Land Council Office Project in Broome.

South Australia:

  • $1.72 million to the District Council of Streaky Bay for the $2.85 million development of the Streaky Bay Oval Precinct;  
  • $914,672  to Flinders Ranges Council for the $1.19 million solar installation project across the Flinders region;
  • $4.81 million to the Barossa Council for a $5.44 million project to build a Tanunda to Gawler Shared Bicycle/Walking Path;
  • $4.5 million to the District Council of Lower Eyre Peninsula for the $12.66 million Port Lincoln Airport Upgrade;
  • $1.11 million to UnitingCare Wesley Port Pirie for the $1.38 million project to rebuild the Port Pirie Men's Shed and Community Centre Complex; and
  • $2.84 million to the Ananguku Arts and Culture Aboriginal Corporation for the $2.84 million project to upgrade and build new art centre infrastructure on the APY Lands.

Northern Territory:

  • $3.25 million to the Housing Industry Association for the $4.98 million project to construct a dedicated Building Industry Training Centre in Berrimah for the Northern Territory; and
  • $3.5 million to Alice Springs Town Council for the $5.04 million Alice Springs Regional Waste Management Centre.
