Head of Monetary Policy Strategy

 

The mission of our Monetary Policy Strategy team is to support robust monetary policy decisions by fostering collaboration, challenging through alternative perspectives and providing advice on monetary policy strategies and decisions.

We are seeking an expression of interest for a Head of Monetary Policy to assist the Board in developing monetary policy strategy and alternatives to support monetary policy decision making. Reporting to the Deputy Governor, this role helps to identify and address the key challenges facing policy makers. It does so by collaborating with and leveraging expertise from all policy areas and by working closely with the Bank’s leadership.

The Head of Monetary Policy Strategy is required to build and lead a high-performing and collaborative team. The role requires a strong fostering of the Bank’s Open & Dynamic culture to empower staff to contribute and harness diverse views to deliver sound policy advice to the Board.

Objectives

  • Lead and contribute to the effective performance of the RBA and delivery of the RBA’s strategic priorities and enterprise-wide strategic initiatives.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with colleagues and key stakeholders in various parts of the Bank to support monetary-policy decision making and achieve enterprise outcomes.
  • Motivate, foster, and inspire a culture aligned to the RBA’s values, enabling an environment for high levels of staff engagement and performance.
  • Build an open and dynamic environment that focuses on delivering outcomes, prioritisation, learning and adapting as we go.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and development of employees and teams to effectively achieve team, department, and enterprise outcomes.
  • Provide proactive and effective communication, encouraging multilevel feedback and fostering a culture of openness and trust.

Capabilities

Proven leadership ability

  • Ability to lead strategically and inspire a diverse team to deliver high-quality outputs through collaboration.
  • Ability to lead teams and stakeholders through change and encourage innovation.
  • Ability to advise and communicate effectively with stakeholders, decision makers and non-expert audiences.

Strong, relevant expertise and experience

  • Expertise in monetary policy strategy, the wider policy toolkit and interlinkages with the macroeconomy and financial markets.
  • Broad experience, for example, from relevant organisations abroad or other international fora, in analytical and operational environments, or in exceptional policy environments, including crises.
  • Familiar with relevant literature and can foster linkages between policy challenges and research.
