The Role
The ASD 6 Signals Intelligence Analyst in RI undertakes a combination of the following tasks:

  • Research and analysis of technical and signals data to craft collection strategies, optimise collection activities and inform capability development decisions
  • Research and analysis of signal intelligence data using data literacy techniques to collate, manipulate and transform data
  • Developing expertise on geopolitical issues and regional cultures
  • Writing and editing various types of foreign signals intelligence products, using outcomes of research and analysis of collected data
  • Developing knowledge of legislative, policy, and security frameworks
  • Using a variety of information and communications technology, record-keeping, information management systems, and analytical tools.

About our Team
ASD is a vital member of Australia’s national security community. We work across the full spectrum of operations required of contemporary signals intelligence and security agencies. This includes intelligence, cyber security and offensive cyber operations in support of the Australian Government and Australian Defence Force (ADF).

Regional Intelligence Branch (RI) is a multi-disciplinary workforce that conducts in-depth, complex research and analysis of foreign signals intelligence, technical data, and a wide range of policy issues. Successful candidates will receive specialised on-the-job training and access to relevant industry-related courses to develop your skills and help you build people networks across the National Intelligence Community.

RI’s ASD 6 Signals Intelligence Analysts are senior analysts with specialist skills and valuable subject matter expertise. They enjoy working with and teaching others and developing creative solutions. They are creative thinkers and are energised with the prospect of inspiring, coordinating and enabling small- to medium-sized teams of analysts to solve challenging problems.

The ASD 6 analyst is focused, has corporate strategic awareness, and manages competing priorities under high-tempo, high-pressure environments. They have a passion for researching and understanding world events and exploring new techniques and analytic tradecrafts.

Assessment Criteria

  • Applicants are required to provide a response addressing the following:
  • Explain why you would make a good ASD 6 Analyst.
  • In your explanation, use examples that demonstrate professionalism and probity, and your ability to manage work projects to achieve results.
  • Your response should be no more than 600 words.

Please ensure that you meet the eligibility requirements:

Citizenship - To be eligible for employment with ASD, applicants must be an Australian citizen. 

Health Assessment - The preferred applicant may be required to undergo a medical examination conducted by the Agency’s preferred medical provider. 

Organisational Suitability Assessment – To be eligible for employment within ASD, the preferred applicant will be required to undergo an Organisational Assessment (see Organisational Suitability Assessment section in this Information Pack).

Security Clearance - The preferred applicant will be required to successfully undergo the security clearance vetting process at a specified clearance level. The preferred applicant MUST be willing to disclose all relevant and required information
