Flood Warning Engineering Technical Lead

Position overview

The Bureau is seeking an experienced Flood Warning Network Engineering Lead to drive the Flood Warning Observations implementation and uplift that will be undertaken under the FWIN Program.

The occupant of this position will be a member of the Operational Technology and Engineering (OTE) Section. The role of the OTE Section is to ensure the development, delivery and operation of measurement equipment and systems meet the Bureau's performance and functional requirements. This includes the following sensors/networks:

  • Radar and Wind Profilers
  • Automatic Weather Stations
  • Solar Radiation
  • Ozone
  • Flood Warning
  • Sea Level
  • Aircraft Based Observations   

The work includes leading a team of Bureau staff and contractors to; develop and provide technical documentation for vendors and Bureau Staff, plan and execute testing in collaboration with test analysts and leads, transition to operations, and support the rollout of the new Flood Warning Network assets.

It is expected that the selected candidate will have extensive experience in Flood Warning Networks deployment and operations allowing the applicant to manage the technical team and be part of the integrated program team contributing to the successful planning, scheduling and execution of the FWIN activities.  In addition, experience in the management of multiple technical work packages within a complex organisation structure and experience in the coordination with vendors and external bodies for the provision of technical equipment or services in a timely and cost-effective manner will be highly valued.
