The Role
The Department of Defence is seeking an experienced Physiotherapist to work in a dynamic role managing a team of Physiotherapists in Western Australia (WA), committed to driving best outcomes for members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF).
Responsible for the physiotherapy service broadly in WA, the EL1 Physiotherapist Manager is accountable for providing clinical treatment, leading a team, managing allocated resources, setting work area priorities, managing workflows, developing strategies and procedures, and evaluating business outcomes.
You will plan, lead and manage evidence-based assessments and treatment of complex to very complex intensive, multi-factorial physical conditions within a bio-psychosocial framework to achieve defined treatment goals. You will demonstrate advanced knowledge, experience and skills in physiotherapy practices and Defence health policies to provide advice to stakeholders and mentor less experienced employees. You will motivate and mentor these teams, align complementary skills and allocate resources in a manner that delivers results across a number of locations in WA.
Note: The current position is ongoing however we will be creating a merit pool to fill similar ongoing and non-ongoing positions that become available within the next 12 months.

This position is located at HMAS Stirling and sits within Joint Health Command, which provides a joint health effect to enable ADF capability and care for our people.
Through the delivery of reliable, resilient, affordable and best practice health services, Joint Health Command enables a healthy, ready, and supported Force from enlistment through to transition. In addition, we partner with the Navy, Army and Air Force to ensure that the Australian Defence Forces’s deployable health force is equipped and skilled to provide health care in the deployed setting. As part of Joint Capabilities Group, we make a direct contribution to the ADF’s operational capability and provide crucial support to the warfighter.
Joint Health Command has an integrated workforce of Defence members, civilians, contractors and professional health providers. We manage around one million patient health service interactions with Defence members each year through health units in Australia and overseas.
Our Ideal Candidate
The successful applicant will demonstrate extensive physiotherapy experience, critical thinking skills, be proficient at analyzing workflows and business processes, provide recommendations for improvements to enhance efficiency and outcomes, and manage the implementation of agreed actions.
They will have experience in managing, developing and mentoring staff through performance appraisal and change, providing expert clinical mentoring and training to assist in the development of staff. They will work within a regional team whilst applying a structured and nationally consistent service, as directed by policy and their technical chain.
Although based at HMAS Stirling, the successful candidate will be required to travel between Defence establishments within WA and will be enthusiastic to foster and maintain strong and effective professional relationships between various stakeholders within the Department of Defence and contracted external agencies.
