The Role
We are seeking an exceptionally talented User Experience (UX) Designer to join a rapidly growing team of researchers and software engineers that contribute to the development of cutting edge software prototypes and cloud-based applications in support of Defence. You will contribute to both User Interface (UI) and UX design for existing prototypes that will have real and immediate impact in military operations and exercises, and to longer term research exploiting emerging AI technologies for data storytelling to deliver a capability edge through decision superiority.
To be successful, you will require a background in one or more of the following disciplines: UX design, UI design, visualisation, visual analytics, data science, multimedia, front-end programming, web development, software development.
You will work closely with senior developers and researchers in a team within an environment which provides strong mentoring to fast track the development and broadening of your skills.
You will have a natural curiosity to explore cutting edge designs, technologies and work on interesting problems in a high-impact environment. You will have a desire for innovation, transforming concepts into capabilities for Defence
About our Team
Joint Warfare and Operations is a branch within Joint & Operations Analysis Division. We have a proud history of supporting ADF operations and leading Defence thinking around command and control (C2) at the operational level. Our mission is to apply relevant research to address the operational challenges presented by Australia’s strategic circumstances. In particular, we enhance warfighting effectiveness through the development of leading-edge C2 systems, decision-making technologies, and concepts and capabilities that support an agile Defence Force. Our Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate is an enthusiastic and resourceful User Experience Designer, preferably with post-graduate qualifications, who has an interest in developing user interfaces and visualisations within a modernised technology stack and exploring the latest technologies
You will have demonstrated skills in more than one of the following: user experience design; user interface design; visualisation; digital storytelling; front-end web technologies and software development.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable working within an agile environment with continually evolving requirements. You will be able to operate in a fast-paced environment, with high impact and high reward and be able to work independently and as part of a team.
