DOTAM is recruiting multiple administrative APS 6 roles in Canberra, Sydney and Brisbane. These roles provide an excellent opportunity to work in a busy directorate, with teams overseeing varied business functions across DOTAM. These roles include:
Operations Support Officer (Canberra)
This role is part of a small Governance and Coordination cell that supports DOTAM HQ, the Deputy Directors and Business Operations Managers of the give national regions through the coordination of tasks, including reserve management, finance, travel, policy, legislative guidance and numerous other administrative functions. Being a great all-rounder is a must.
Business Operations Manager NSW/ACT (Sydney)
Supporting Deputy DOTAM NSW/ACT and the regions personnel, this crucial role manages all business operation functions including, but not limited to, finance, budgeting, reserve and personnel management, recruitment and governance. This role also engages and contributes to the Business Operations Manager team supporting each other and HQ tasking. Being a great all-rounder is a must.
Contract Management Support Officers (Canberra/Brisbane)
These positions are responsible for the management of support staff and services against contract deliverables across the 39 disparate Training Area locations. The roles include support to associated corporate governance, risk and procurement management tasks and liaise extensively with contractors, range staff, zones and ADF personnel to oversee the delivery of key training capability.
Training Area Infrastructure Officer (Canberra)
This role support the delivery of Defence military capability by supporting the outcomes of maintenance and development projects across the Defence Exercise Areas throughout Australia operated and manager by DOTAM. Confident project stakeholder engagement is essential in this role to effectively represent DOTAM at the scope, design and delivery phases of numerous, competing high level projects.
Manager Joint Operations Support Staff (MJOSS) ACT/SNSW – Training Area Strategic Planning (Canberra)
An exciting role which represents Defence policy and plans to the ACT and NSW Governments in the security and emergency management sector. This unique role is required to be periodically on call (with extra allowances paid). An understanding of emergency management arrangements and the military environment would be preferred. This role is likely to be redeployed in approximately 18 months to more strategic planning in DOTAM HQ (also in Canberra) that ensures the effectiveness of Defence Training Areas with appropriate resources to ensure the operational capability of the Australian Defence Force.
Executive Officer Domestic Support (Canberra)
This role supports the Assistant Director in the provision of high level policy advice and support in the coordination of Domestic Support functions including annual national conferences, military exercise planning and Joint Operations Support Staff (JOSS) activities.

About our Team
The Directorate of Operations and Training Area Management (DOTAM) is an exciting place to work with very broad responsibilities providing opportunities for career progression and travel. DOTAM’s two main functions are; the operation and management of 39 military.
Training Areas and Ranges across Australia, and the coordination of the Security & Estate Group support to major military exercises and facilitation of Defence domestic operations within Australia. This includes the full range of Joint Operations Support Staff (JOSS) services comprising the coordination of Defence Assistance to the Civil Community, Defence Force Aid to the Civil Authority and ceremonial requests.
The Directorate works closely with the Services, aiming to provide quality military exercise areas and facilities to ensure Defence and partnered countries can operate safely on modern and sustainable training areas. The development of these areas ultimately ensures forces can enhance Defence capability and readiness, helping protect our nation.
DOTAM HQ is based in Campbell Park Canberra and the team works in an integrated (civilian and military) environment. The organisation consists of a team of approximately 220 Defence personnel (ADF, APS, Reserve) plus contracted personnel located nationally across five regions.
Our Ideal Candidate
For all of the abovementioned roles, our ideal candidates must be comfortable and confident working in a dynamic and integrated environment of APS, ADF and contractors. Candidates must have a high level of motivation, self-direction and independent problem solving skills with the ability to create and maintain positive working relationships. We are looking for a quickly adaptable and high functioning team members who can efficiently organise and juggle a number simultaneous tasks.
Essential skills and characteristics for these roles include:

- Good MS Outlook / Excel and Objective skills
