Introduction
Defence is seeking high-performing senior executives to various actual and expected vacancies at the SES Band 1 level in Capability Acquisition & Sustainment Group (CASG). In CASG, you will have the opportunity to manage some of the largest and most complex projects in Australia.
As part of the Senior Leadership Group, you will play a key role in promoting and influencing a shared commitment to the strategic direction of Defence.
You will:

The Roles
Position 1: Assistant Secretary Space Systems (Reference Number J16078)

Space Systems Branch (SSB) acquires and sustains satellite communications systems for the Australian Defence Organisation and allied Governments. The Branch is responsible for the progression of allocated major and minor communications systems through the requirements, acquisition and in-service phase, with an emphasis on the provision of communication capabilities. The Branch will oversee the development and implementation of Australia’s first sovereign satellite capability, working in lockstep with our international partners to ensure Australia develops a world class capability.
The Assistant Secretary Space Systems Branch is the Accountable Officer responsible to all four Capability Manager’s within the Australian Defence Force, for the delivery of Australia’s first sovereign satellite capability. The Assistant Secretary will be required to form critical international networks, along with developing strong relationships with our multiple industry partners to support the growing importance of space capabilities in defending Australia and our national interests.
Position 2: Assistant Secretary Electromagnetic Warfare and Intelligence Systems (Reference Number J16079)

Division: Joint Systems Division
Electromagnetic Warfare and Intelligence Systems (EWIS) Branch delivers programs in the Electromagnetic Warfare domain. Electromagnetic Warfare and Intelligence Systems programs requires an integrated, complex arrangement of systems rather than any one technology and provides a joint capability delivery approach. EWIS Branch works primarily on areas associated with: electronic protection, electronic support, electronic attack and signals intelligence systems. The EWIS Branch also supports the development of Active Electronically Scanned Array technology for the Australia Defence Force and supports Government to Government exports of this technology.
The Assistant Secretary Electromagnetic Warfare and Intelligence Systems is responsible for providing management and leadership for EWIS Branch, including implementation of significant reform and ongoing continuous improvement. This includes ensuring: efficient acquisition and through life support of electronic warfare and signals intelligence systems; managing relationships with customers and stakeholders including Defence Capability Managers, Program Sponsors and a broad range of ADF and allied forces.
Position 3: Assistant Secretary Land C4 Systems (Reference Number J16080)

Division: Joint Systems Division
Land Command, Control, Communications and Computer Systems (LC4S) Branch provides technologically advanced, networked and integrated systems to ensure a connected, protected, lethal land force capable of operating alone and in combination with air and naval forces. As the lead Delivery Manager, the branch acquires and sustains systems to enable raising, training and sustaining a force with a clear, timely and secure battlespace command, control, communications and computer capability.
The Assistant Secretary Land C4 Systems is responsible for providing management and leadership to a diverse team across multiple locations for Land C4 Systems Branch, including implementation of significant reform and ongoing continuous improvement. This includes ensuring efficient acquisition and through life support of Land Command, Control, Communications and Computer Systems (LC4S), and managing relationships with key Land C4 Systems Branch customers and stakeholders including Defence Capability Managers and their Program Sponsors, and a broad range of users and stakeholders within Defence and in support of allied forces.

Engagement may be negotiated on an ongoing or non-ongoing basis. To be eligible, applicants must be Australian citizens. These are security-designated positions and the successful applicants will be required to hold or obtain a security clearance at the specified level.
A Merit Pool of highly suitable candidates will be established to fill similar vacancies that may occur within the next 18 months.
