The Role
The Defence Aviation Safety Authority (DASA) is offering an offering an exciting opportunity to join the Directorate of Initial Airworthiness as an Aviation Safety Assurance Officer (ASAO). Working within the Type Certificate Oversight and Enforcement (TC O&E) team, the role is critical in projecting the Authority’s assurance function specifically for the Military Type Certificate Holder (MTCH) organisation. The role is multi-faceted and requires integration with adjacent product assurance teams within DASA.
Being a safety assurance officer includes:
- Conducting assurance and oversight activities of Defence organisations in the continued airworthiness aircraft design and domain.
- Evidence sampling and performing assessments of compliance against regulations.
- Assessing applications for various DASA issued Authorisations. Authorisations in the TC O&E team vary from individuals, organisations and product approvals.
- Monitoring platform occurrence reporting and supporting the Authority function to intervene through mandatory action directives.

Our Ideal Candidate
DASA is looking for a technical professional who is passionate about aviation safety in the Defence context. As an ASAO, your contribution will have a critical bearing on promoting aviation safety outcomes. Possessing experience in design, production or management of safety critical systems within the aviation industry will be advantageous. As will knowledge pertaining to type certification and initial airworthiness concepts either civil or military.
For this role, you will draw on your broad experience to assess organisational performance and identify safety risks and therefore practical experience in evaluation of safety risks, or exposure to aviation safety is highly desirable.
You are methodical in conducting oversight activities, and have a high attention to detail. You possess professionalism and a confident nature when providing high quality advice to senior engineering managers and key stakeholders. Your knowledge on the Defence Aviation Safety Regulations (DASR) and/or Aviation Safety Management Systems (ASMS) will be highly regarded.
