The Role
The Deputy Communications Security Manager – Non Service Groups is the deputy representative for ensuring communications security compliance, providing communications security support to Defence exercises and operations, and advice to ensure future Defence capabilities are aligned to Defence enterprise cryptographic requirements. 

This position requires extensive experience in communications security, specialist knowledge of Defence communications security requirements and excellent interpersonal skills to liaise with a diverse array of external agencies and Defence stakeholders.

The successful applicant will:

  • Be required to travel domestically, primarily to conduct Communications Security Compliance Checks (typically one to two full weeks per month, 11 months of the year).
  • May be required to travel internationally to conduct Communications Security Compliance Checks (typically, for not more than 14 continuous days).
  • Hold, or be eligible to obtain an Australian Official Passport.
  • Be rostered on call 24/7 on a semi-regular but flexible basis, staff typically perform the role for one full week approximately every 8 – 10 weeks. 
    • When performing this role the applicant may not consume alcohol, is to remain contactable and less than two hours travel from Defence Secret Environment (DSE) access at all times. 
    • In accordance with the enterprise agreement, when performing this role, an out-of-hours restriction payment is available and where the member is required to work on site, overtime conditions apply.

About our Team
The member will work as part of 18 person team of Australian Defence Force and Australian Public Service personnel exercising enterprise cryptographic management on behalf of the Defence Communications Security Officer in accordance with National Policy and Defence procedures. 

The communications security management team consists of eight positions and is grouped based by the Defence elements that they support; this includes two positions for Navy, Army, Air Force and Non Service Groups (which include all other Defence elements).

Our Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate has extensive Defence communications security or communications management and planning experience; or equivalent experience in other government organisations or industry.

The ideal candidate is familiar with the communications architectures of at least one Defence Service, and be familiar with Defence, its concepts of command and the application of policy. 

The ideal candidate is familiar with Microsoft Office software suite, and be able to draft and review minutes, briefs and reports. 

The ideal candidate is a flexible cooperative team member unafraid to engage respectfully with stakeholders across the Australian Defence Force, Department of Defence, Australian Signals Directorate and Defence Industry on issues relating to communications security.
