The Role

If so, you may be the perfect fit for a role in the Defence Intelligence Organisation (DIO). As an EL 1 specialist analyst in North Asia Branch, you will analyse information from a variety of sources, providing intelligence assessments to our customers to reduce uncertainty in their decision-making.
You will:
- Be empowered to be proactive and collaborative, to build and maintain vital relationships with a broad network of stakeholders across DIO, broader Defence, throughout Government and with international partners.
- Be highly aware of DIO’s place in government and its primary goals, anticipating opportunities and proposing strategies to address them.

This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. Our Ideal Candidate
We are looking for people of any academic or vocational background who have demonstrated deep expertise researching, critically analysing and writing on East Asian security dynamics. You will have a strong publication record in academia or government and deep experience in Australia’s national security sector, including awareness of DIO’s place in government. You will have a demonstrated ability to analyse information from diverse sources; communicate your assessments in writing and verbally, mentor colleagues and transfer knowledge.
These positions would suit self-motivated, intellectually curious individuals who demonstrate initiative, integrity, sound judgement and commitment to advancing Australia’s national security interests. You will leverage your deep subject matter expertise, experience, and professional networks to produce timely, relevant and insightful intelligence assessments that inform real-world strategic decision making. You will have a demonstrated ability to operate in high-pressure environments and place high value on collaborative and innovative approaches to achieving results.
