ARWA is looking for candidates who have a STEM tertiary qualification (in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, physics, environmental science, geology, mathematics, engineering, technology, or a related field) and an interest in radioactive waste management. You will be driven, self-motivated, resilient with curiosity in science and technology, and an ability to work in a complex and dynamic environment that has a long-term goal. Experience with radioactive waste or in the nuclear sector is not required. We are committed to growing the expertise and capability of our Safety and Technical people through sharing expertise, training and education, exposure to a range of projects and tasks, shadowing more experienced personnel, and visits to relevant facilities.

This is an exciting opportunity to join ARWA at a stage where we are supporting Government in evidence-based decision making on the direction and approach for radioactive waste disposal. We are a small, but growing organisation at an early stage of our program, and there is opportunity for successful candidates to work across a broad range of activities. You will develop your technical, project management and behavioural skills in a positive, supportive, inclusive environment, whilst making a real contribution towards delivery of the ARWA mission and the Governments aspirations for radioactive waste management.

Technical Officers will contribute to the delivery of projects and work packages relating to the activities of the Safety and Technical Branch. This includes:

  • developing technical scopes for work packages and projects; supporting the delivery of work packages and projects
  • technical analysis; literature reviews; analysing information and data to derive key insights; reviewing reports
  • managing technical contractors; contributing to the development of processes and arrangements
  • stakeholder management.

At ARWA we are delivering critical national work to ensure the safety and security of people and the environment over the very long-term. As a Technical Officer at ARWA, you will be able to use your experience and knowledge, whilst growing your skills and understanding of radioactive waste management, to help us on this vital work. As a radioactive waste management specialist, I find every day to be a different challenge and to bring a different problem to solve. It is a technically stretching, interesting place to work that lets us work with other talented technical, social and policy professionals in a supportive and positive environment ~ Helen.
