Senior Data Engineer

Make a difference.

Contribute to a safe and environmentally responsible Australian offshore petroleum industry.

The National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority (NOPSEMA) is Australia’s independent statutory authority and is the expert regulator of health and safety, structural integrity (including well integrity) and environmental management for all offshore energy operations and greenhouse gas storage activities in Commonwealth waters.

Working with NOPSEMA provides an opportunity to make a real difference to people working in Australia’s offshore energy industry and the environment.

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Data Engineer to join our Information Technology and Data Team at our Perth Office.  This position may be filled on an ongoing (permanent) or non-ongoing (fixed-term) for an initial period of up to 18 months basis dependent upon NOPSEMA’s business requirements.

NOPSEMA is starting a project to deliver a data management platform for reporting and analysis using modern tools and methods as part of a larger program of work to renew our core business applications.  In this role you will implement the new data platform to deliver stable and reliable data sets for analysis.

You will be responsible for the continued operation of NOPSEMA’s current data infrastructure and transition to the new platform.

Key duties include integrating data sources and implementing views, transformations and data pipelines to prepare data for analysis. You may also be required to assist the Senior Data Analyst if required to meet data analysis reporting obligations.

This role requires experience in the extraction, integration and preparation (including transformation) of data for reporting and analysis using SQL, understanding of modern data architectures and knowledge of common data analysis, query and presentation tools.

The successful candidate will possess good SQL experience together with research, problem-solving and analysis skills.  You should also be a strong team player, with the flexibility to manage priorities and ability to work autonomously in a busy team environment.

A familiarity with SQL Server, PowerBI and cloud data platform technology is desirable, as is an understanding of the offshore petroleum industry.

Working with NOPSEMA:

NOPSEMA offers attractive flexible working conditions including competitive remuneration package, generous 15.4% superannuation contribution and 25 days paid recreation leave per year together with 15 days personal / carers leave.

NOPSEMA is committed to a fair, flexible, safe and rewarding workplace which allows for diversity amongst all its employees.  Applicants who are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, come from a diverse cultural or linguistic background or have a disability are encouraged to apply.
