ANAO responds to survey
The ANAO wants happier, healthier staff - and a bit more creativity too.
The Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) says it is prioritising the wellbeing of its employees and fostering innovation through diversity in its latest Census Action Plan for 2024-25.
It comes after results from the Australian Public Service (APS) Employee Census revealed a 93 per cent participation rate among ANAO staff, well above the APS average of 81 per cent.
While ANAO employees scored high on leadership and engagement, with categories like ‘Leadership-SES’ and ‘Leadership-Immediate supervisor’ hitting scores of 77 and 79 respectively, the results showed room for growth in wellbeing and innovation.
Staff gave a score of 69 for ‘Wellbeing policies and support’ and 62 for ‘Enabling innovation,’ slightly trailing the APS benchmarks.
To address these findings, ANAO’s action plan focuses on improving wellbeing programs and embedding inclusivity to drive innovation.
Initiatives include expanding access to digital mental health tools, adding more wellbeing check-ins between managers and staff, and creating opportunities for knowledge-sharing through dialogue sessions led by Senior Executive Service (SES) leaders.
The action plan also introduces a Diversity and Inclusion Council to promote inclusivity and revises recognition policies to celebrate staff who drive innovation and collaboration.
These efforts aim to reverse a slight decline in innovation scores and maintain momentum in fostering a supportive workplace culture.
The Census Action Plan 2024–25 builds on previous successes, including the improved wellbeing scores and expanded onsite support services in 2023–24.
