The federal government is teaming up with the tech sector to improve digital services.

The Digital Transformation Agency (DTA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Australian Computer Society (ACS) to enhance digital capabilities within the Australian Public Service (APS) and strengthen collaboration between government and industry.

Representing over 49,500 technology professionals across government, industry, and education, ACS focuses on expanding digital skills, fostering innovation, and supporting career development in Australia's tech sector.

This partnership is expected to enhance knowledge-sharing and improve the digital expertise of APS employees.

Chris Fechner, Chief Executive Officer of the DTA, described the agreement as being founded on "principles of collaboration, communication, and mutual benefit”.

The MOU sets out a range of objectives, including making better use of existing digital capabilities and investments in government service delivery, encouraging the development and adoption of new technology, and promoting the Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA) as a common industry standard for evaluating digital skills.

It also seeks to build a highly skilled digital workforce in Australia and support initiatives that improve diversity and inclusion in the tech industry.

The MOU applies to all ACS members, DTA staff, and the broader APS digital and data community. It took effect on 12 December and will remain in place for two years.
