New CEO to help grow Aboriginal wealth
Nigel Browne has been appointed CEO of Aboriginal Investment NT for a five-year term.
A descendant of the Larrakia and Wulna people, he brings extensive leadership experience. He has led the Larrakia Development Corporation since 2013 and serves on the Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation board. His background includes government and industry board roles and legal experience as a Crown Prosecutor and Solicitor in the Northern Territory.
In 2011, he was named National Indigenous Legal Professional of the Year for his advocacy.
Under his leadership, Aboriginal Investment NT - a charity that receives about two thirds of its revenue from government sources - will continue its focus on growing financial resources and opportunities for Aboriginal Territorians.
Minister for Indigenous Australians, Malarndirri McCarthy, welcomed the appointment.
“Aboriginal Investment NT has a significant agenda to empower Aboriginal Territorians to invest and grow wealth for future generations,” she said.
“I have every confidence Mr Browne’s experience and leadership will support Aboriginal Investment NT to deliver economic, social and cultural outcomes for the Northern Territory.”
She also acknowledged outgoing CEO Elly Patira’s contributions, particularly in developing a Strategic Investment Plan.
