A report by the Centre for Independent Studies has called for the Future Fund to be wound up and its assets transferred to the trustees of existing public sector superannuation schemes to match the liabilities each scheme has accrued.

The report,  Future Funds or Future Eaters? The Case Against a Sovereign Wealth Fund for Australia, prepared by CIS researchers Robert Carling and Stephen Kirchner,  argued that the existing Future Fund is unnecessary and that  Australia’s current and future prosperity would be harmed by greater use of  a Sovereign Wealth Fund.
