A Coalition Government would demolish the National Broadband Network, according to Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy.

Senator Conroy made the claims following the release of last weeks Dissenting report of the Joint Committee on the National Broadband Network, which concluded that the NBN Co’s Board would need to be prepared to alter contracts in the event of a Liberal victory in the September election.

"Mr Abbott told the Committee for Economic Development in Australia (CEDA) that: 'If we don't go ahead with the National Broadband Network in its current form, that's about $50 billion less that the Commonwealth will need to borrow' Senator Conroy said.

The Senator’s claims come after Opposition Spokesman for Communications and Broadband, Malcolm Turnbull,  slammed the latest calls for the establishment of an extensive industry consultation over the rollout of the NBN, describing it as too little too late.
