The Federal Opposition has confirmed it will not oppose the formation of the Federal Government’s Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA).

ARENA forms part of the Federal Government’s $10 billion carbon tax package, which the opposition has pledged to rescind if it takes office.

Opposition energy spokesman Ian Macfarlane confirmed the Coalition will not oppose the legislation in parliament.

The agency, which will be established as an independent board, is currently expected to consolidate over 10 current renewable energy programs.
