With a new progress report showing work on the Pacific Highway is falling short of its targets, the New South Wales Premier and deputy Premier have challenged the Prime Minister to increase spending on upgrades.

The most recent update on the upgrades shows they are missing their mark; currently only about three-quarters of the road will be upgraded by the original 2016 deadline.

Barry O’Farrell and Andrew Stoner, the Premier and Deputy respectively, are calling for a federal commitment to an 80-20 funding split; even then Stoner says it would be difficult to meet the deadline.

"The question is where does Mr Rudd stand?” Stoner asked, “We’ve got a lot of uncertainty about when the job will be finished because the federal government went from funding 80 percent, then down to 50 percent and now they're down to 20 percent... I'm wanting him to match the Coalition's commitment of 80 percent of funding to finish the job.”
