The Federal Government is looking for new blood to realise its high-speed rail dreams.

The Australian government has opened recruitment for the High Speed Rail Authority (HSRA), which will be responsible for advising the government on planning and construction of a high-speed rail network on the country's east coast.

The authority will be chaired by a part-time appointee who will oversee the authority's functions and develop relationships with key stakeholders such as federal, state and local governments.

Other part-time roles include four board members who will be appointed through a merit-based process.

The government is encouraging experts in rail, infrastructure, planning and financing to apply.

The HSRA replaces the National Faster Rail Agency, and its primary focus will be to establish high-speed rail between Sydney and Newcastle.

After this, it will begin work on planning and overseeing the construction of what the government says will be a reliable, safe, efficient and cost-effective high-speed rail network.
