The Federal Government has announced the opening of the $200 million Round Two of the Regional Development Australia Fund (RDAF).

Opening the second round of the $1 billion RDAF, Federal Minister for Regional Australia Simon Crean said the Commonwealth will continue to work with local communities to drive growth and development in regional areas.

"With our economy in transition, the Australian Government is engaging the regions to identify new opportunities to diversify and strengthen their economic base," Mr Crean said.

"Thats why we have already allocated $150 million to 35 projects in Round One of the RDAF program and why we are now opening applications for Round Two and increasing the amount of available funding to $200 million."

Under the second round, a maximum of $15 million is available per project, and preference will be given for applications that demonstrate partnership funding of 1:1 for grant requests of $5 million and less, and 1:2 for grant requests of more than $5 million. Projects located in capital cities must demonstrate how the proposed project will benefit the broader region, or other parts of regional Australia.
