Public servants have been surveyed about their views on digital transformation.

A survey involving 425 government workers in Australia has revealed a mixed response to digital transformation.

While 63 per cent reportedly saw improved accessibility of government services, only 11 per cent have access to all necessary job information.

The majority reported increased (47 per cent) or unchanged (43 per cent) workloads despite digital advancements.

There appears to be a gap in AI tool usage and confidence among public servants, with 74 per cent seldom using AI in their work.

This was attributed to a misunderstanding of AI's widespread presence in technologies like search engines and social media.

In response, the government is considering regulatory “guardrails” around AI, focusing on testing and transparency.
