Our client is seeking to engage a Graphic Designer.

Location: Canberra, ACT
Contract Length: 12 months non ongoing, with option to extend up to 12 months
Eligibility/Security Requirement: Applicants must have an active Baseline Clearance

The Role

Reporting to the Assistant Director | Design Studio Lead, the Senior Graphic Designer will support brand management and produce industry standard design services for a range of channels and mediums (including print and distribution), to support business outcomes.

Responsibilities of the APS Level 6 Senior Graphic Designer may include:

  • Delivery of high-quality graphic design products for print and digital outputs.
  • Expert knowledge of Government brand guidelines and principles as well as an extensive knowledge of Government accessibility requirements. 
  • Maintain successful relationships with internal stakeholders and liaise with external suppliers to ensure successful outcomes. 
  • Mentor junior staff and maintain a high-level awareness of trends and developments in graphic design. Help to promote design and technical excellence and efficiencies by sharing knowledge and practices within the team.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in the Adobe Suite (InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop in particular) and the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint and Excel in particular).
  • Manage multiple deadlines and show attention to detail and quality.
  • Assist the Design Studio Lead with special projects, as required.

Qualifications and Education:

  • A minimum of five years professional experience in graphic design
  • A relevant tertiary qualification
  • Relevant experience in the delivery of communication or creative services; and
  • Proven track record and experience in a similar role.

We are seeking individuals with the following skills and capabilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to use high-level design skills and understanding of design principles, to analyse client graphic design needs and develop appropriate digital and print design solutions within budget, and relevant to the target audience. 
  • Track record in managing a range of complex design projects, working to tight deadlines while prioritising competing workloads and providing a prompt, efficient and quality graphic design service.
  • Understanding of printing and production techniques and the ability to collaborate with suppliers through to production. 
  • Demonstrated understanding of brand principles with the ability to create visual identities and apply brand guidelines to produce quality design outputs.
  • Effective oral and written communication, presentation and liaison skills including the ability to read comprehend and write design related documents, and the ability to represent the design team in a professional manner. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams, influence stakeholders, and manage client relationships.
  • Leadership in mentoring junior designers and guiding their growth in both technical and strategic aspects.
  • The capability and capacity to readily adapt to changing circumstances and priorities in a fast-paced and supportive environment.
