About the Department

The Department oversees key national areas including cybersecurity, immigration, border security, counter-terrorism, sovereignty protection, citizenship, and social cohesion. It implements strategies for cybersecurity, manages migration programs, and promotes social cohesion through multicultural initiatives and citizenship management.

About the Role

The Counter-Terrorism Coordination Centre (CTCC) leads the coordination of Australia's counter terrorism policy, strategy, legislation, operational coordination, and capability development activities, across the Commonwealth and states and territories. Critical to the CTCC's success is close collaboration with law enforcement, security, policy and delivery agencies at the international, federal and state levels.

The High Risk Terrorist Offender (HRTO) Capability Section within the Counter-Terrorism Capability Branch provides policy and program management support to the HRTO regime.

The HRTO Capability section is responsible for managing coordination and delivery of counter terrorism capability to states and territories to ensure agencies are equipped to address the terrorist threat at a tactical and operational level, with a nationally consistent and interoperable approach. This includes undertaking capability mapping and managing funding arrangements as required with states and territories.

Key 
Duties

  • Provide policy and program management support to strengthen Australia's HRTO regime.
  • Engage and negotiate with stakeholders to further the Australian Government's counter-terrorism objectives
  • Develop and manage relationships with stakeholders, engaging and collaborating to achieve outcomes and facilitate cooperation with Commonwealth, and state and territory partners
  • Plan and coordinate counter-terrorism capability exercises across law enforcement and national security agencies
  • Coordinate across government to prepare briefs and submissions and undertake reviews that support decision making.

Requirements

Demonstrated experience in policy and program development and implementation, or transferable skills that demonstrate strong:

  • written and verbal communication skills
  • conceptual and strategic-thinking skills
  • research and analytical skills
  • attention to detail

This position will be offered as an either an EL1 non-ongoing position with the department or as a labour hire hourly rate contract.
