NMI is seeking a senior scientist or electrical engineer to work in its Electricity Section in the Physical Metrology Branch. The main responsibilities of the position are high-level science support for the activities of the Section, calibration and technical work for clients across a wide range of measurement types, and development and delivery of services. The role reports to a Project Leader, but requires the ability to work independently, apply professional judgement and develop innovative solutions and practices.

Main Functions of the Position

  • Develop, maintain and enhance measurement standards and services for various areas of electrical metrology (e.g. quantum standards for alternating voltage, ac-dc transfer, electrical power, impedance), including associated test methods and software, targeting efficiency, accuracy, reliability and integrity.
  • Develop, maintain and document validation processes and oversee their implementation, including training of other staff as required.
  • Undertake calibration and other measurement work across a range of areas within electrical metrology, completing calibrations efficiently, accurately and to clients’ requirements.
  • Provide high-level scientific and technical support for Project operations, including contributing to research directions, project planning and resource management.
  • Build and maintain a constructive relationship with clients and external stakeholders, providing advice on technical issues and developing measurement plans to suit requirements.

Eligibility

  • A tertiary qualification in science or electrical engineering, preferably at a Ph.D. level.
