Researcher in Paediatrics and Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Hearing Health

  • 2 Year Fixed Term opportunity 
  • Based in our Macquarie University location with hybrid work arrangement  
  • Salary range: $83,246 - $141,120 p.a plus 15.4% superannuation (salary determined based on level of experience)

Your opportunity

As a Researcher, you will be a key member of the Communication Sciences Department and work on specific research projects with Aborginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Paediatric hearing, all in support of NAL's mission and strategic objectives. Key responsibilities/duties include:

  • Leading and participating in initiating, designing, planning and executing research projects involving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities on paediatric hearing loss in accordance with NAL project procedures 
  • Analyzing and interpreting data, and supporting other staff in data analysis and interpretation 
  • Disseminating research findings through high-quality publication in international peer-reviewed journals and trade journals, and presenting at relevant conferences, as both lead author and co-author 
  • Identifying, developing and/or maintaining relationships and collaborations within paediatric audiology
  • Maintaining research expertise and keeping abreast of new developments relevant to NAL’s objectives and develop opportunities for integrating new scientific ideas into NAL.
  • Serve as a manager for staff in the department, depending on experience

What you'll bring

  • Must be recognised and identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and accepted by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community
  • Previous experience in representing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander paediatric communities
  • Knowledge in one or more of lanuage, psychology, hearing, child development, public health research literature and methodologies
  • Understanding of hearing loss, audiological service provision, and the hearing rehabilitiation industry
  • Knowedlege of speech and language development, influence of hearing loss in childhood, early intervention and clinical practice
  • Co-design methologies for product development or service imporvement with communities and stakeholders
  • Experience conducting research related to communication development in Aborginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Understanding of hearing loss, audiological service provision, and the hearing rehabilitation industry, particularly early intervention
  • Skills in data management and manipulation and statistical approaches
  • Experience in managing team members or supervising students
